The Korean Supreme Court on Friday remanded a compensation lawsuit against Dow Chemical and Monsanto to the Seoul High Court which had ruled the US chemical companies must pay 6,795 Korean veterans a total of 63 billion won ($56.2 million). However, the Supreme Court ruled the manufactures should compensate for 39 victims who suffer from acneform disease and whose extinctive prescription is not expired among the 5,227 victims who were already awarded partial compensation by the lower court. It marks the word’s first court decision to hold Agent Orange manufactures responsible, acknowledging the cause and effect relationship between Agent Orange exposure and illness.
