The LSK Arbitration Centre &The SGM:The LEGITIMACY Question THE Saturday SGM and The ARBITRATION Centre Project.The two have described variously by many of our members on these pages and elsewhere differently. Some say it was a farce,a scandal,a mockery,a charade,a fiasco,stage-managed and at worst a sham that has left the image and standing of the Society as a paragon of democracy,transparency and accountability indelibly and irredeemably dented.I doubt so. Others say it was a definitive moment for the Society.It marked a grand courageous march away from the centres and shackles of stagnation. As a Council we are still buckling under that burden of doubt you have cast on us To a great extent many of the run-away allegations and characterisations are outrightly false and unjustified To an equally great extent many of the questions raise by you are ,valid , genuine and real. AS a society we pride and parade ourselves as the foremost defenders of high ideals and paragons of Transparency ACCOUNTABILITY n DEMOCRACY. WE therefore owe you some answers.We need to allay your fears and dispel your doubts . FOR without you,we cannot be.We deeply believe in participatory leadership.We need to be believed in by you, to lead you.We need your support to deliver on our mandate. I RECOGNISE that as the Convenor of the Young Lawyers in the Council,who form a majority of the membership of the Society we need to listen to your concerns more than ever before. THEREFORE in view of the legitimate concerns that have emerged following the SGM and the passage of the Motion requiring members to contribute towards the Arbitration Centre I shall convene a consultative OPEN FORUM for young Lawyers to discuss various issues and chat a WAY-FORWARD. Broadly,from the GRIEVANCES I have read on these pages.The mani concerns seem to be: 1.The Validity of the Vote/ Resolution passed at the SGM. 2.Whether the 2015 P.C should be pegged to the payment of the Contribution towards the project. 3.The Financial viability and feasibility of the Project. I shall communicate the date and venue of the forum shortly. Together for a better LSK.
