We had a month long celebration of the finest that Jazz has to offer. We started our month long celebration off with our anniversary celebration of 61 years of Jazz and Jammin on Monday Nite!!! Monday Nites in Texas was the Nite that Barbers, Beauticians ......... Waiters and Musicians were off from work (it was known as Industry Nite), and that is how all of this got started back in 1953!!! The youth ensemble from the Summer Jazz Workshop featuring some of the best young musicians in the City returned for round two of the youth Jazz Jam! These kids give us real hope that Jazz will live on! This group of kids range from the age of 9 through high school and you would not believe how really well versed they are in the Jazz genre! The Elite members of the ensemble returned by popular demand to do a final SJW Jam before school started! We presented a salute to Texas Tenor Arnett Cobb on his 96th Birthday which featured tenor sax man Bruce Harrison who actually performed with Arnett in his Cobb and The Mob group, along with tenor saxophonist Jordan Townsend who made this a wonderful tribute to our Original Texas Tenor! Arnetts worldwide traveling companion and his only child, Lizette Cobb was on hand to speak on her fathers behalf and present some very rare photos; She even displayed one of the original tenor saxophones played by Arnett Cobb. A moment in history that can only be viewed in the Museum, was presented to the Jam session audience!!!
