The Lakers did not announce financial terms, but a source told ESPNLosAngeless Ramona Shelburne that the deal is worth $48.5 million. #1. IMHO: The Lakers were INSANE to make this deal before he comes back and you can at least see where hes at. I mean everyone assumes hell come back at at least 90% of what he was, and its probably a good assumption, however whats the harm in waiting a couple weeks and seeing him once hes back? #2. If Kobe actually cares about winning ring #6, hes got a funny way of showing it... I mean does he understand its a cap league? If they give him $25 million that doesnt leave alot of pie left to build around him with. You cant win with one guy in this league. I mean I know that its hard to leave money on the table, but isnt it worth it (ESPECIALLY at this point of his career where hes already made more money than God) to be able to get guys around you that help get the ring that puts you on Jordans level? Why not take $15 mil and make up that $10 million in shoe money? And while the math says they can still pick up 1 other marquee guy, youve now basically committed to Kobe/Free Agent X/and the D-league all-stars for 2014 and 2015, and I dont think you can win with THAT in this league anymore. #3. The upsides, this basically assures hell be a Laker for life (a good and rare thing for ANYBODY these days...) and well probably never have to try and erase some horrible MJ on the Wizards/OJ as a Niner/Namath as a Ram/Favre as a Jet/ect memories. Crystal Dekker thoughts?
