The Lamouree-Hackett American Legion Post 72 here in Saugerties - TopicsExpress

The Lamouree-Hackett American Legion Post 72 here in Saugerties has the rare distinction of having within its membership two of our towns greatest contributions to the nation. They are well known & rightfully so all over the world. Roger Donlon, the recipient of Our Nation highest honor ”The Medal of Honor” & Peter Zmiyarch a winner of perhaps the world’s greatest honor “The Nobel Peace Prize”. But as much as we honor these two heroes of our town, there are others that have served equally as well in their own way. We pass them on the street each day, but for the most part, they are just another face in the crowd to most that that pass their way. A friend of mine & a career Navy Hospital Corpsman Chief Petty officer Mark Wright wrote a poem “Heroes Unaware” that I have posted on this page a number of times as part of videos that fit these heroes among us. During the coming year I plan on doing a little piece each month or so to honor some of these men & women that have served our nation in war & then returned to serve our state, county & town throughout the rest of their lives, in some cases continue to this day. I began this month with a personal friend & hero of mine that I have posted many things about on this page, as well on the Saugerties Veteran’s web site & Facebook page. I received a call from him a few minutes ago & was for the first time disappointed to hear his voice as I expected that he would now be visiting Belgium. He was to be honored by the little town of Biehan, Belgium & was given an all-expense paid visit there to honor his efforts in liberating that town 70 years ago this month. His son went in his behalf & we hope that he will return to show & tell us about how the town honored his Dad. So in the coming weeks check back here & see some more of the story of a Saugerties Hero Unaware Cliff Synder.
