The Latest on the possibility of new homes coming to #UnionCity. Sorry for the long post. Union City Suspends #Residential #Rezoning: The hot #EastBay #housingmarkets are causing one city to put a chill on zoning land for residential development. Union City is in the process of updating its General Plan - a task that includes studying future commercial and residential land use patterns. This process will take several months and could result in changes to the current zoning ordinance. Meanwhile, the city has been approached by several parties interested in residential developments. One proposal includes rezoning more than 11 acres at 30315 Union City Boulevard for a 135 unit single-family subdivision. Some City leaders are concerned about the compatibility of a residential development directly adjacent to industrial land uses. They claim that a comprehensive study of housing needs, economic development issues and the land needed to accommodate both must be completed before any land use changes be considered. On Tuesday, March 25 the City Council adopted an emergency resolution placing a 45-day moratorium on converting land zoned for industrial uses to residential uses. Bay East staff (Board of REALTORS for Alameda County) will work with Union City during the zoning moratorium and throughout the General Plan update process to explain the impact city policies will have on home ownership.
