The Law of Moses vs. The Law of Christ “Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy. Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.” Daniel 9:24-27 The angel Gabriel told Daniel that Seventy weeks were determined upon his people for six reasons: to finish the transgression, to make an end of sins, to make reconciliation for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up the vision and prophecy, to anoint the most Holy. These are the 6 things that Gabriel told Daniel that the Messiah would accomplish. In verse 24 the fulfilment of the last reason, to anoint the most Holy, is recorded in Hebrews 9:24-26. “For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us: Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others; For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.” Hebrews 9:24-26 Paul wrote in Romans 15:8 that “Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers.” And in Galatians 3:17 “…the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ…” Matthew 26:27-28 tells us what this New Covenant is: “And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.” Daniel 9:27 spoke of this very same covenant five centuries before “And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease” We as Christians are under the New Covenant based on the same Law of God handed to Moses, where which the perfect and ultimate Sacrifice, redeems all who call upon the Name of the Lord and atones for the sin of His people according to the Law. Therefore the penalty for sin, which is the burden of the Law, has been eliminated and its ordinances (ceremonial blood sacrifice system) have been nailed to the cross. We are free from this burden of the law of sin and death and are now under the law of grace which is the abrogated Law of Moses, handed down by God, now known after its fulfilment, as the Law of Christ whom is the same God that gave Moses the Law. The entire Law is to be kept... “Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.” Romans 3:31 Therefore, we are to follow the whole Law of God knowing that the need for atonement for sin through blood sacrifice has been fulfilled by the blood of Christ, the Lamb of God, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen. “And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.” 1 John 2:3-4 “And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.” 1 John 3:22 “And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.” 1 John 3:24 “By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.” 1 John 5:2-3 “And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.” 2 John 1:6 The book of Hebrews makes reference to the fulfilment of a prophecy written by the Prophet Jeremiah by quoting it and thus validating the obligation to adhere to the Law of God as part of the New Covenant. “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them” Hebrews 10:16 “For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people” Hebrews 8:10 “Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the Lord: But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. Thus saith the Lord, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The Lord of hosts is his name: If those ordinances depart from before me, saith the Lord, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever.” Jeremiah 31:31-36 The prophet Isaiah declared the everlasting nature of the Law of the Lord. The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever. Isaiah 40:8 As so did King David. Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever. Psalm 119:160 The Apostle Peter warned us against misunderstanding and misquoting the epistles of St. Paul and the false teachings these errors would produce. “And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.” 2 Peter 3:15-17 Paul warns us likewise in his letter to his disciple Titus. “Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth. Titus 1:14 St. Paul clearly bore witness to the world that observing Gods Law and faith in Jesus Christ go hand in hand. “But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:” Acts 24:14 The Apostle John in his revelation of Jesus Christ as he scribed in the last book of the Bible revealed to us the importance of God’s Law to believers in the last days as well as their testimony of the Lord as they face death on their last day. “And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.” Revelation 12:17 “Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.” Revelation 14:12 “Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.” Revelation 22:14 But most importantly, we are warned and admonished by the Master Himself. “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 5:17-19 “But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.” Matthew 15:9 “And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.” Matthew 19:17 Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. Mark 7:7 “And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord.” Mark 12:29 “And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.” Luke 16:17 “But this people who knoweth not the law are cursed.” John 7:49 “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” John 14:15 “He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.” John 14:21 “If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Fathers commandments, and abide in his love.” John 15:10
