The Lego Movie is everything youve heard it hyped up to be. Lord Business’s plan is to use “The Kragle” (just one of about a dozen hilarious mispronunciations of human objects in the Lego world, this being Krazy Glue with some missing letters) to freeze the inhabitants of the world in place, thus creating, in his mind, perfect harmony. It’s an interesting dichotomy the film raises, between a desire to preserve the past in amber (or in this case glue) and a desire to continually change and, as it occurs now, remix. So much from the past is taken piece by piece and reformed (Quentin Tarantino comes to mind in the best of examples, crappy generic action directors come to mind in the worst of examples) that you can’t help but want, at least for a moment, a slower time, time to sit back and enjoy what has been created, a desire to gaze at the unmoving works of years past even as the slow march of time continues onward, undaunted.
