The Liberia Football Players Association (LIFOPA) 18-Community Tournament under the theme, Unity Through Football enters a crucial stage this week with several intriguing pairings as the various communities try to out do each other in reigning supreme in Montserrado County. The party begins on Wednesday, June 4, with hungry to play Sinkor who walked away with free points in their first match against points-given- Paynesville, sorting things out with yet to play Airfield in a Group B clash at the Blue Field beginning at 4:00 PM. This will be Airfield first match as they have an outstanding match already. On Thursday at the Blue Field at 4:00 PM, rampaging Central Monrovia with two wins out of two will be itching to maintain their one hundred percent record when they lock horns with spirited Red Hill Community that are with a point from one game. Friday brings to the fore the derby between keen to impress Doe Community and ready for battle Clara Town in what should be a fascinating duel. Clara Town are without a point from one game, while Doe Community have just one point in their account from two matches. Paynesville will be hoping to catch up as far as points are concerned when they combat unpredictable ELWA/Rehab on Saturday. Paynesville surprisingly forfeited to Sinkor in their first match for the fact that they did not turn up on grounds that they were told by someone that the organizers were to provide transportation and jerseys for participating teams, something that was quite untrue according to the organizers as they never made such commitment, and they have since agreed to participate, accepting the three points lost. ELWA/Rehab are with three points after pinning vociferous Old Road in their one and only match thus far. There are other plum fixtures on Sunday at three venues. Hostilities begin at the Blue Field at 4:00 PM with Airfield engaging Old Road. At the D-Tweh sports pitch, dark horses St. Paul Bridge will need a win against still in with a fight Brewerville at 2:00 PM to cruise to the quarter-finals, while winsome New Kru Town with two straight wins, will be aiming to continue their winning spree when they face one point Logan Town at 4:00 PM in what should be a mouth watering derby. Then, it is Group D classic between leaders Barnersville with four points from two games testing desperate Jacobs Town that are with two points from two games. The match takes place at the Barnersville Estate sports pitch at 4:00 PM, while in the other match of the group, glory seeking New Georgia with two draws from two games face one point, two games Gardnersville at the TUSA Field also at 4:00 PM. It is expected to be mouthwatering as spectators will once more be wooed by thrilling football in cheering their communities and also enjoy every bit of action in each of the 90 minute tussle.
