The Lion King is claimed to be Disneys first original story, not using elements from previous stories. However, controversy has loomed as it is uncannily similar to Kimba the White Lion. While Disney filmmakers say the story is based on Joseph and Moses stories from The Bible as well as Shakespeares Hamlet, rumors abound. Many note the similarities of The Lion King to a 1960s Japanese TV show, Kimba the White Lion. Many of the same characters in Kimba have an analogue in The Lion King. Not to mention, scenes in both are nearly identical in both their composition and screen or camera angle. It certainly seems suspicious. However, Disney assures us its just coincidence.
