The Lions Breath How is it you can run way ahead of me You have no notion of who I am anymore I recollect when you was small Having to suckle before learning to bite I felt you loved me How can you now reach up to bite the hand that once fed lovingly In a circular motion I watched you go Losing wind of my scent I stood and watched the male run free Entertaining other females Unlike the lioness From the pillar to the post I watched How could you forget so easily The image of me But the more you ran the more I trekked Eager to understand your enticement your joy Only to watch what I wrought And diligently labored at my task Per take of strange fruits to satisfy his hunger his needs and his appetite It was then I knew you never knew me Now I gather longing arms around my empty waist You was my inspire My legacy My son I slowly realized I had been cheated I chased only a fathom that day For you was long gone from me Like yester years of the past Still I ached to be near you To share your wonderment To view through your eyes what you found But the part that was me was not there Even when your heart no longer respond I would think Can a babe actually forget the birth womb of his first breath How silly am I to think I could share your flight When it was plain to see you kept running away from me Faster and faster you ran swift and sure like the sands of Africa My steps however are now slowed and has became limited With my own eyes I witness the breaking away Felt the road turn a path I wasnt permitted to go So today Ive stopped running and stopped chasing It was obvious another lion Was lying in wait to breed me And I will bear his son Will history repeat itself I fear That I will raise another lion Who will forget the breath of his life Written by Dora Robertson
