The Lord has stirred my heart to give $500 to my church (Bethel Baptist Church) by the first Sunday in November. I am praying that I might be able to double it. And I am challenging others to support your local church with a free will offering. I am excited to see what God can and will do! Below is a message that The Lord gave me. Hope it will be a blessing. Title: Take The Preachers Advise Text: 2 Corinthians 8:10 And herein I give my advice: for this is expedient for you, who have begun before, not only to do, but also to be forward a year ago. Subject: The Advise Of The Preacher On Giving Theme: Some Good Advise Prop. & Tran. Statement: Every Christian Needs Advice From Time To Time. Tonight Well Make Some Observation About The Advise Of The Preacher. I. Observe the Strategy Of Pauls Advise - 1. It Was To Provoke Them In Their Giving - 2 Corinthians 8:8-14 (KJV) 8 I speak not by commandment, but by occasion of the forwardness of others, and to prove the sincerity of your love. Hebrews 10:24 (KJV) 24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: 2 Corinthians 9:6-9 (KJV) 6 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. 7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: 9 (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever. 2. It Was To Prepare Them To Give - 2 Corinthians 8:24 (KJV) 24 Wherefore shew ye to them, and before the churches, the proof of your love, and of our boasting on your behalf. 2 Corinthians 9:3-5 (KJV) 3 Yet have I sent the brethren, lest our boasting of you should be in vain in this behalf; that, as I said, ye may be ready: 4 Lest haply if they of Macedonia come with me, and find you unprepared, we (that we say not, ye) should be ashamed in this same confident boasting. 5 Therefore I thought it necessary to exhort the brethren, that they would go before unto you, and make up beforehand your bounty, whereof ye had notice before, that the same might be ready, as a matter of bounty, and not as of covetousness. 3. It Was To Praise Them For Their Giving - 2 Corinthians 9:1-2 (KJV) 1 For as touching the ministering to the saints, it is superfluous for me to write to you: 2 For I know the forwardness of your mind, for which I boast of you to them of Macedonia, that Achaia was ready a year ago; and your zeal hath provoked very many. II. Observe the Scripture In Pauls Advise - 2 Corinthians 8:15 (KJV) 2 Corinthians 8:15 As it is written, He that had gathered much had nothing over; and he that had gathered little had no lack. Exodus 16:18 (KJV) 18 And when they did mete it with an omer, he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had no lack; they gathered every man according to his eating. Luke 22:35 (KJV) 35 And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing. - 2 Corinthians 9:9-10 (KJV) 9 (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever. 10 Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;) Psalms 112:9 (KJV) 9 He hath dispersed, he hath given to the poor; his righteousness endureth for ever; his horn shall be exalted with honour. 1. Notice It Was Applicable - 2. Notice It Was Appropriate - 3. Notice It Was Advantageous - III. Observe The Spirit Of Pauls Advise - 2 Corinthians 8:8 (KJV) 1. He Was Of A Graceful Spirit - Vs. 8-12 2. He Was Of A Gentle Spirit - Vs. 13-14 3. He Was Of A Grateful Spirit - Vs. 16-17 4. He Was Of A Guarded Spirit - Vs. 18-22 5. He Was Of A Genuine Spirit - Vs. 23-24
