The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed. Psalm 34:18 This verse could be translated, the Lord saves those who are bitter in spirit. The Lord will bring healing to those who are disappointed with their lives. Sometimes, it looks as if the Lord has let us down. Sometimes, Christian people let us down. Sometimes, we think God has let us down. The reality is often its our expectations that have let us down when they have not been met. When God doesnt do what we expected Him to do, we may become upset or angry with Him. Often we act like children who didnt get what they wanted. Yet, its not always that simple. Some unmet expectations in life can be devastating. We expect our children will live, but what if they die? Thats not a childish expectation like not getting the type of candy you want. It is an intense, searing, loss. Or, we lose our job and then lose our house; these are things we experience that we did not expect. I expected a life. I expected my marriage would continue. I expected to have a job and my house. God, what are You doing? What are You allowing here? The best way to live life is to have as your expectation whatever God wants. May we be able to say, God, my expectation is You. Whatever You want for my life, Lord, is what I want. Can you see that theres an entirely different mindset here? You can come to God and say, This is what I want. Follow me, God. Or live your life saying, Here I am, Lord. I want what You want for my life. I will trust You are working in my life when I experience things I did not expect. For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord.
