The Los Angeles Metropolitan Opera presents an exuberant international cast in Mozart’s DON GIOVANNI, playing in Santa Monica and Downtown Los Angeles, CA June 8th, 14th, and 15th, 2014 --For Immediate Release, Los Angeles, CA --June 5, 2014 Linda Jackson, the Artistic Director and co-founder of Los Angeles Metropolitan Opera is fired up about the passionate cast and crew assembled for the company’s upcoming performances of Mozart’s DON GIOVANNI. And with good reason. The list reads like a United Nations delegation. Consider Puerto Rican soprano Yayra Sanchez, Sweden’s Greje Angell, Korea’s Jeong Sang Lyu, Mexico’s Joel Huanca, and Argentina’s Marcela Pan, to name just a few. “Our local music scene has the advantage of being America’s melting pot, with performers bringing fresh perspectives to the classic operas never imagined by the composers,” says Jackson. “Despite that, I’m sure they’d be pleased by the results. “And not to be outdone, there’s no lack of home-grown talent on board for this run either.” Jeong Sang Lyu, a bass from Korea, will play Masetto, one of the men cuckolded by the crafty Don Giovanni. A teacher discovered Jeong’s powerful voice when he was only fifteen, and he’s been developing it ever since, both in Korea and stateside. The breadwinner for his family, Jeong nevertheless finds time to conduct the chorus at his Los Angeles church, as he has done for seven years. “I’m excited by this meaty role, and look forward to honing my dramatic skills in the performance,” Jeong says. Holding the production together and keeping the tempo right is Music Director Abraham Fabella. Born in far off Loma Linda, California, Abe got his Masters in Composition from the San Francisco Conservatory in 2004, and has been working steadily since, accompanying choruses, soloists, and helming recent Los Angeles Metropolitan Opera productions. “This company offers something pretty unique to Los Angeles, live opera performed in very intimate settings at prices anyone can afford,” says Fabella. “I’m hoping that as the news of our work spreads, our audience base will deepen as well. Those who’ve seen us are generally eager to return.” The talented Dana Howell accompanies on the synthesizer in this production. The cast includes: Eric Castro in the title role,Yayra Sanchez, Marcela Pan, Linda Jackson, Lisa Marie Bolin, Barbara McQuaide, Jeong Sang Lyu, Cynthia Leigh, Samantha Kim, Lauren Jones, Joel Castro, Joel Huanca, Cierra Gooden, Rochelle Firestone, Leona Carney, Janice Batzdorff, and Gretje Angel. Sara Sulander serves as Stage Manager. DON GIOVANNI plays at First Presbyterian Church of Santa Monica on Sunday June 8th at 2:30 pm. The production then moves to Good Samaritan Hospital’s All Souls Chapel in downtown Los Angeles Saturday June 14th at 7:00 pm, and Sunday June 15th at 3:00 pm.
