The MSPCA-Angell applauds today’s ruling by the Supreme Judicial Court (Commonwealth v. Duncan) that affords animals the protection of emergency aid in moments that aid is desperately needed. In Massachusetts, law enforcement officers can now act, even in the absence of a search warrant, to save the life of an animal if they believe that animal is in imminent danger. The decision is a milestone achievement for animal welfare organizations across the state who work every day to protect animals from cruelty and neglect and build a more just and compassionate society. We are also pleased that the court based its decision in part on the many substantive animal welfare victories the MSPCA-Angell has helped pass in the state legislature in recent years. massreports/SJCCases/Default.aspx
