The MSU Spartans will be facing the Baylor Bears in our first-ever Cotton Bowl appearance on January 1 at 12:30 p.m. central time in Arlington, Texas, at the AT&T Stadium. And the Spartan Marching Band members are very excited to have the opportunity to travel with the team and perform during the pregame and halftime show. The show that the SMB will be performing during halftime is the Latin IS America show that was previously performed during the Michigan game on October 25. The performance includes the tunes We Are One, recorded by the Cuban American rapper Pitbull; the Brazilian tune Maracatu Misterioso, by Antonio Nobrega; and Malagueña, by Ernesto Lecuona. The first two selections were arranged for the SMB by Scott Boerma, and Malaguena is arranged by SMB Director John Madden. Drill design is by Matt James, Color Guard design by Peter Eichler, and percussion arrangements are by Jon Weber, Steve Wulff, and Alex Smith. The SMB rehearsed at Lamar High School in Arlington, Texas, on Monday, December 29, and Tuesday, December 30. The full ensemble will be there rehearsing on Wednesday, December 31 at 9:00 a.m. as well, so if you find yourself in the area, please feel free to come see us! The SMB is also participating in an event called The Battle of the Bands with the Baylor Marching Band. Both bands will be playing select tunes from their shows and other rah-rah tunes. The event starts at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 31, at Klyde Warren Park in Dallas.
