The Manning meal for New Years Day will be baked pork chops, collard greens with ham hocks, macaroni and cheese casserole, hopping johns and corn bread. I am cooking black-eyed peas for good luck and financial good fortune. Grandma Stevenson use to put a penny in her black-eyed peas, and dime in her Greens because they look like coins. Be sure to save a few uncooked greens to tack to the ceiling for good luck or hang over the door to ward off evil spirits. I am also cooking pork chops....because pigs root forward meaning you will continue to move forward and prosper in life this year. While chicken and turkeys scratches backwards, this means the people will scratch in the dirt all year (meaning poverty or moving backward in life instead of forward). Tne cow stands still meaning you will be stuck in the same situation you was stuck in 2014. Cornbread has to be cooked in a circle pan because it is a symbol for gold.
