The March of Dimes Parade. Here is what is written on the back of the photo: Yreka used to have a really great parade for March of Dimes every January---near the 30th, FDRs birthday. A huge tarp held by a number of men was paraded down Miner and Broadway, and people on the sidewalk would pitch in dimes and other currency. The parade would follow; it was made up of good sports sponsored by the radio station. The week prior to the parade, you could call in to the station and pledge money for people to do goofy things in the parade. This photo portrays one of the pledges: $25 to have George Tyler ride a donkey down Miner St. in his undershorts while wearing an I Like Ike banner. Gus Kehrer (sp?) head of the Highway Patrol is leading the animal. (FYI, George Tyler was my grandfather.)
