The Mariners open beach comp was held on Friday evening in Rossnowlagh. An enjoyable evening in short sleeves greeted 18 anglers that fished the comp in difficult conditions with the big swell surge off the Atlantic making grip leads vital to hold a bait in place. The beach always provides a stunning crimson sunset as the sun gets swallowed up by the horizon in front of you as you watch the rod tip for bites. Some cracking flounders were feeding beneath the barrels mostly around or over the 30cm size. Species caught were flounders, coleys, turbots and dogfish for the distance casters. The winners on the night overall winner of the Mariners cup and cash prize was Gerry MC Brearty. 2nd overall prize sponsored by Landand Seasports went to Stefan Martin. 3rd overall prize sponsored by Mooney boats went to Pat Cunningham. The best junior prize sponsored by Landand Seasports went to Patrick Burke and the longest fish prize went to John Burke and Gerry McBrearty with 35cm flounders each.
