The art quilts were created from the perspective of side views, seeing the layers of plant shapes and finding flowers, birds and insects peeking out at you. Karen Linduska of Carbondale is a fibers artist, teacher and author. Over the past thirty five years Karen has received numerous awards and recognition for her artwork which has been exhibited in publications, TV, art fairs, galleries and private commissions all over the United States, Japan and Europe. The Marshlands of Southern Illinois exhibition came about through Linduska’s collective experience of more than fifteen years in developing her linear style of decorative stitching on her sewing machine. Linduska paints and dyes fabric incorporating upholstery fabric, sheers, silk, yarn, plastic, paper, wood, buttons and her decorative thread painting technique to achieve the deep texture and richly blended color in her art quilts. A perfect counterpoint of color and texture has been added to this colorful fibers art installation. Discovered languishing in storage and now displayed with the art quilts is a twenty year collection of sixty small decorative lidded ceramic boxes of varying shapes from the 1940’s to the mid 1960’s by various California pottery artisans.
