The Mary Allen Museum of African American Art & History Headquarters “Mary Allen Heritage House” The Mary Allen Museum of African American Art & History Board of Directors is pleased to announce that it will open its Headquarters, the MARY ALLEN HERITAGE HOUSE (Office and Collection Center) in early Summer 2014. More than 17 years ago, a small group of citizens in Crockett created the Mary Allen Preservation Society with the mission to preserve Mary Allen College and develop a museum. In 2000, the Mary Allen Museum of African American Art & History was created to continue the mission of preserving this historical building. The New Headquarters is located at 1503 South 4th Street, Crockett, Texas 75835, directly behind Angelina Community College. “Creating a Museum for Mary Allen Seminary/College to collect artifacts of the college reflects Langston Hughes’ question: “What happens to a dream deferred? It explodes and comes into fruition.” Through its long commitment to educate future generations and to safeguard an important American story, creating the Museum is in large part, the answer to the constant questions of passers-by of the once beautiful, Mary Allen College. “The stories and spirit of Alumni, the Crockett community, and African Americans throughout the region will be told for many years to come after the Museum project is completed.” Items currently being collected include those recovered and retained from Mary Allen College, personal artifacts, photographs, audio and video footage, testimonials and other items related to African American art and history throughout the Region.
