The Mayor admits in this Commercial Appeal article that pension reform will help give businesses more money to operate in the city by giving more tax breaks. Were all for economic development in this city, but many businesses are receiving tax breaks, and theres no mechanism to hold them accountable if they dont follow through with their promises. If the Mayor can break an agreement with city employees, why wont he break an agreement with businesses who arent doing what they said they would do. There are millions upon millions of dollar not going into the citys coffers because of broken promises. Email the City Council at [email protected] and ask them to #KeepThePension and hold businesses accountable to their promises made in tax breaks.
