The Melbourne triathlon season is officially under way and today - TopicsExpress

The Melbourne triathlon season is officially under way and today Beast Squad today came out to play. A forgotten wetsuit and last minute number two didnt stop Andy kicking things off - the extra drop in weight helped him to the days fastest swim. Andy went on to crush it, holding his lead and winning his category. Mark took advantage of the choppy conditions to test his water drinking skills, out of the water in about fourth then pushing T1 to be first on the bike and extending his lead on the run to win his category. Unfortunately his timing chip didnt register so he missed podium glory - retrospectively announced champion. In her first sprint triathlon Hannah attacked head first and launched her season to a superb start. Having experienced the Beast Squad technique of swimming in choppy conditions (just get in there and get it done!) Hannah worked through the field, running a solid sub 4:00/km 5km to earn a coveted podium 3rd. And the kid prodigy showed everyone how its done, exiting the water in the lead group and then turning on the Sufferfest to smash the bike like Jensy and run like a Kenyan. Simon won his category and posted the fastest overall time of the day going well under the hour. As always, we would like to say a big thank you to our very loyal cheer squad members Jane and Andrew Hearn, Jamie Bruce and Erin O’Connor and of course our BST mascot Chloe the dog. Great early signs for the Beast Squad going into next weeks half ironman distance event - Challenge Shepparton.
