The Merikin Foundation is a Company Village based organization, - TopicsExpress

The Merikin Foundation is a Company Village based organization, which has a rich legacy in Trinidad and Tobago dating back to 1812-1815, when black American slaves fought alongside the British on American soil, in the War of 1812. At the conclusion of the war, these slave soldiers earned their freedom and embraced the opportunity to have a free life on the Caribbean island of Trinidad. These freed slave soldiers established villages, maintaining their company status, in the southern region of Trinidad, called The Company Villages, on lands granted by the island’s British colonial governors. These lands, located on the outskirts of Princes Town, were largely undeveloped, untouched, and needing extensive work to sustain but eventually the villages were developed. Today the Merikin Heritage Foundation has decided to make a forward step in the establishment of a Merikin Heritage Site and development of Merikin Company Villages and its peoples, by firstly establishing a Merikin Headquarters.
