The Method to Imran Khan’s Madness As expected, the negotiations between the PML(N) and the PTI ended in a deadlock on a single issue of resignation of the Prime Minister. All other demands of the PTI on electoral reforms have been accepted including the process to be adopted to implement the electoral reform package. So why does Imran Khan, a sensible person from all appearances before the long march, refuses to settle for electoral reform package which was his primary publicly stated goal before launching the political agitation? The only reason for not backing off the PM resignation demand is not merely and as widely perceived of losing political face. There is a method to his madness. He is deliberately raising the ante to create a wide spread perception that he is prepared to go all the way even if it means Martial Law which everyone wants to avoid including the Army unless his single resignation demand is not met. So what he is trying to portray to his opponents is that ‘you are dealing with a mad man’ bent upon destroying the entire system so why not compromise on his demand and give him and a tormented nation a way out. The reality is that his perception of going over the hill is all part of a plan. He is aware of plans that once Nawaz Sharif goes on a long leave or resigns even for a month for the Supreme Court to decide on whether the elections were stolen or not, the PML(N) would be unraveled, losing its majority status with disgruntled groups chaperoned out to form a separate group to manufacture a coalition government. The coalition government thus formed would be led by an Imran Khan nominee, possibly an old friend, who would ensure that necessary evidence is produced before the Supreme Court Judicial Commission for a favorable judgment to declare the 2013 elections null and void. As a consequence, Imran Khan’s popularity would soar to ensure his long dreamed ‘clean sweep’ that he missed by a long stretch during the 2013 elections. Even if Imran Khan forces a resignation out of Nawaz Sharif, the political fragmentation would continue with sectarian divide becoming wider eventually leading to civil war like conditions. The more ‘preferred’ shorter route to national destruction designed by the international conspirators is to facilitate conditions for the Army to takeover, leading to rapid and more disastrous consequences including declaration of independence by Balochistan nationalists now part of the system. Good intentions inevitably lead to good results. However, when intentions are other than the stated, the outcome is also different true to the universal truth ‘Man proposes and God disposes.’
