The Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau and Green Country Marketing Association co-sponsored a luncheon today at the center to show appreciation to local tourism partners as part of National Tourism Week. Representatives from the Miami Travel Information Center, Green Country Marketing Association and the Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau are pictured below. Travel Facts from the U.S. Travel Association Travel and tourism is one of America’s largest industries Generated $2.1 trillion in economic output, with $887.9 billion spent directly by domestic and international travelers that spurred an additional $1.2 trillion in other industries. Directly generated $134 billion in tax revenue for local, state and federal governments. Each U.S. household would pay $1,093 more in taxes without the tax revenue generated by the travel and tourism industry. Direct spending by resident and international travelers in the U.S. averaged $2.4 billion a day, $101.4 million an hour, $1.7 million a minute and $28,154 a second. Travel and tourism is America’s largest services export industry $180.7 billion in travel exports ($139.6 billion in travel and $41.1 billion in passenger fare receipts) $123.6 billion in travel imports ($86.2 billion in travel and $37.3 billion in passenger fare payments) $57.1 billion travel trade surplus for the U.S. Travel and tourism is one of America’s largest employers Supported 14.9 million jobs, including 7.9 million directly in the travel industry and 7.0 million in other industries. 1 out of every 9 jobs in the U.S. depends on travel and tourism. Generated $209.5 billion in payroll for those employed directly in U.S. travel. Travel is among the top 10 industries in 49 states and D.C. in terms of employment. Nationwide, travel is number six in terms of employment compared to other major private industry sectors.
