The Michigan Salon: Sunday, November 10 (2-5pm) in the East Hall South (Math) Atrium The major renaissances of history arose from the efforts of a few, like-minded individuals who radically responded as a cohort to social apathy and malaise. During the 17th and 18th centuries, recurring gatherings of intellectuals were the nurseries of revolutionary change in Western society. In France these gatherings were known as salons. Following the paradigm of these early gatherings, salons have appeared around the world in varying forms. Yet in this new millennium of social media and networking, salons have lost their glory--particularly in the US. In many parts of society, young people have succumbed to social and political apathy. We hope to change this. The Michigan Salon hopes to foster a new generation of revolutionary intellectuals, activists, and artists by facilitating intergroup dialogues that uncover the political, social, racial, religious, and socioeconomic issues that matter most to young people everywhere. In effect, we hope that the stories and beliefs of our peers will lead our art, music, writing, activism, and volunteerism in new directions that will not only benefit our lives but also our communities. PLEASE BRING SAMPLES OF YOUR ART OR WRITING, AS WELL AS PERSONAL ANECDOTES, TO THE SALON AS YOU MAY WANT TO REFERENCE THEM DURING YOUR DISCUSSIONS. https://docs.google/a/umich.edu/forms/d/1lg8KgI3Uw1gJ9KzZCr5jEHKPdwCfBGp1-dwQ4m4CO6g/viewform
