The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference announced that the Coppin State softball team has been selected to appear on ESPNU against Delaware State on Sunday, April 13 (3:30 p.m.). The series finale from Dover, Del. will be aired live on ESPN3 and shown on same-day tape delay at 6:30 p.m. “This is a great opportunity to showcase our outstanding institution as well as our student-athletes,” Coppin State Director of Athletics Derrick Ramsey said. “We’re excited to compete and represent the MEAC on a national stage.” Coppin State features one of the best players in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in junior shortstop Candice Van Horn, who is 18th nationally and second in the conference in batting with a .464 average. Van Horn also leads the nation with 0.43 home runs per game and slugging percentage (1.000). Overall, Coppin State has three of the top five hitters in the MEAC in Van Horn, Samantha Denlinger (fourth, .400) and Alyssa Barker (fifth, .348). The Eagles were picked to finish fourth in the MEAC preseason poll while Delaware State was picked to finish third. Coppin State will host Howard University in a three-game series beginning Saturday with a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m. ESPNU is 24-hour college sports network.
