The Mighty River Ganges!! Gracefully flowing since the ages, of the ancient sages When the earth was so pure, nothing was to lure… Every so often crawling and at times hauling Crafting an epic of her own ranges, The Mighty River Ganges. Swimming till the depth of the riverbed Could see the pebbles sink in the soil beneath. And the water was so unblemished and divine, Even the ebbs bestowed their own shine. Just a little care was what she craved for Not a single soul gave ears to her misty words. We kept on slaughtering her with our own destined swords And look! Today we are gifted with mayhem and losses as rewards. Today she gushed like a cruel tigress running for her prey No mercy could enter her doorstep, even her own urchins couldn’t stay. Pyres lit on hope of calming her down on her way Hundreds died and thousands missing is what the bulletins say. Pleading to mend our souls once again Place your hands upon us, to help our conscience regain. Pardon your own children who have gone astray Oh Mighty River Ganges! We cry for mercy today.
