The Military and Veteran Caregiver Services Improvement Act, which Senator Patty Murray named the “Hidden Heroes Act” after the RAND report, would expand eligibility for the VA Caregiver Support Program by eliminating a requirement that benefits under the program are only provided to caregivers of veterans with a service-connected injury incurred after Sept. 11, 2001. Those two provisions are particularly critical for Paralyzed Veterans of America, as the majority of members are pre-9/11 veterans, said Carl Blake, legislative director for Paralyzed Veterans.
