The Military has many customs and traditions, one of the oldest is celebrating the Marine Corps Birthday. Marine Formations, Parades, Receptions and Formal Balls will mark this day. Marines everywhere are pausing today, most Marine Corp Birthday events will include a few speeches sharing Marine Corp history, often Personal war stories, a cake cutting ceremony which includes the youngest and oldest two Marines in attendance sharing in the cutting of the cake. An empty chair or table, representing all those Marines who have past on, gets a piece of cake. I witnessed a WWII Marine Pilot help cut the cake with a Marine that was heading to Desert Storm. Ive attended this Birthday Celebration at various locations no matter the odds or lack of numbers, Marines stop and celebrate the same way all over the World.
