The Ministry of Education Warns against Joining Unrecognized Higher Education Institutions 01-Apr-2014 The Ministry of Education said in a statement, it was noted recently there are some entities that introduced academic programs that were offered illegally in the Kingdom of Bahrain. These entities offer courses that lead to a degree from international bodies without obtaining official approval from the Ministry of Education. The introduction of international programs in the Kingdom of Bahrain is subjected to certain requirements. One of the licensed higher education institutions in Bahrain should host the programs. In addition, the Higher Education Council rules require that universities obtain approval from the Ministry of Education before they offer such international programs. The agreement between the two universities also should meet the rules, regulations, and resolutions of Higher Education Council in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The Ministry of Education emphasizes that in addition to the recognition of the qualifications offered by one of the public or regional higher education institutions in the Kingdom, there are only two types of academic degrees that are recognized and approved by the Ministry, which are as follows: First - Qualifications issued by local and licensed higher education institutions that introduce academic programs or host the programs of international universities in accordance with the regulations and requirements of the Higher Education Council. Secondly - qualifications issued by international institutions of higher education that are recognized in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and gained abroad by the student through his studies in those institutions, provided that they meet the criteria of the National Commission for Evaluation of Academic Degrees. Otherwise, the Ministry will not deal with any academic degrees that are not subject to one of these two categories, and therefore will not attest any degrees issued by overseas institutions that offer academic programs in Bahrain without official recognition. The Ministry calls on prospective students wishing to join international overseas universities to check with University Guidance Center at the Ministry of Education, and reminds those wishing to enroll in higher education institutions and programs offered within the Kingdom of Bahrain to contact or check with the Secretariat General
