The Ministry of Lands has invested Sh800 million to improve some market centres in Kitui county and make them more business friendly, an official has said. The director of Markets in the Ministry of Lands Mutua Nzoka yesterday said modern, secure and sheltered market stalls have been put up in the county to enable residents to trade in fresh farm produce. Speaking to the press in Kitui town after a meeting with Governor Julius Malombe, Nzoka said his department wants fresh farm produce traders and farmers to stop the “the jua kali system of doing business. “You will soon see farm produce traders and farmers doing business in a very homely environment to boost their morale,” he said. Nzoka said the new markets will also ensure security of the traders’ goods and promote their health. “Sanitation is key as boreholes have also been sunk to provide water to the markets. There is constant electricity power supply to enhance security,” he said. Nzoka said his department was liaise with the county to ensure that the on-going markets projects are completed.
