The Mission Statement of the Documentary: “Where’s King Arthur: The Search for a Father’s Love” The Absents & Presence of Fathers in Homes Has Ripped the Structure, Fabric & Very Foundation, of Our Society: For Generations, Upon Generations. Fatherless Homes is an epidemic; without bias towards any gender, race, religion or creed, effecting children’s misconception of what a “Structured Family” looks like, in this day and age. Though women, have taken up the mantle of being not just mothers, but also “simulated fathers” in single parent homes everywhere, their endeavors and servitude could never supersede the essential inclination of a male role model. One that children can look to for identity, resemblance, adoration, protection, courage in the face of adversity, words of wisdom, strength, ancestry and most of all: A DAD! Many children have longed for the voice, support and mere presence of that man figure and his attributes, but have acquired hardened hearts, rebellious spirits, indulging in drug addiction, seeking acceptance through street gangs, promiscuity, hopelessness and In some cases, have pondered, attempted or even committed suicide. The act of divorce can also at times, send children down a spiral of exclusion, from the fear of abandonment and deprivation. As a child growing up in the tough streets of Newark, New Jersey, Indie Film Maker, Writer, Producer & Married Father of Two, Tony James: was faced with many of the hardships and adversities previously spoken of. The oldest of 3 in a single parent home, Mr. James was forced to waive his merited adolescent years, to become “the man of the house, whenever his mother had to go out and provide for him and his 2 siblings”. Having to take up the slack as a provider in the home, Mr. James renounced the furthering of his education in the 10th grade, (which later steered his back to the pursuit & obtain his G.E.D. in Job Corp), to work at local supermarkets and ultimately learn street trades from the neighborhood “block pharmacist”. But after seeing several of his childhood friends die from driving in stolen cars, turf wars to distribute narcotics and petty larcenist schemes, Mr. James delve into one of his hidden passions that consequently saved his life: Writing: Music, Scripts and Films, Which Somehow, Also Evoked Eagerness: to Save & Protect Children, in the Field and Career of Childcare. Yet, throughout his years, a consistent and fevering yearning to know who his father was overwhelmed his ability to live. After making attempts and calls to learn of his obscured and misplaced father, he encounter and discovered that not only was he a child of the same bloodline, that yearned for the acceptance of “Their King”, But “allegedly”, over 20 children came from the same loins of his “progenitor”. Gradually, by retrieving a number given by his mother, to contact his “Aunt Mary”, his father’s sister, Mr. James dream started to come into fruition. First, he was visited by his younger brother “L.J. or affectionately known as Rennie & his Uncle Boscow”. Then, Mr. James took a trip that catapulted him into a new and wondrous world, like “Alice in the Rabbit Hole”. The more relatives that he met resemble and share the same characteristics as he did, the more determined and vital his quest became. Then in November of 2012 at 41 years of age, Mr. James crusade finally found its jewel: The Man in Whom He Shared the Exact Birth Date, was in Front of His Eyes: “Arthur Jessie James”! This documentary explores and gives an invitation, to the question that not only affected Mr. James & his family, but families worldwide: What Happened to Our Fathers and Subsequently, Where are They Now, Physically, Mentally & Spiritually? It also probes and examines these issues, from an educational, political, racial and social view, in hopes to somehow, leaving no stone unturned, drawing the interest to those fathers that have been absentee in their children’s lives.
