The Mobile team arrived late last week so Dottie and I missed seeing them. The Woodlands team is here ministering to the teenage girls. Over 10 years ago I walked into the Tikal Futura Hotel which is 5-star. I was looking around with some of our quinceaneras when a bell boy asked me why I did not stay there. I told him it was so expensive & he called the owner over to meet me. He was so kind & offered all rooms at half-price & we have been going there ever since. He was recently killed in a helicopter accident. I will always remember his kindness. We had a deluge with over 6 inches of water going into the blue building flooding the apartments, the kitchen and the dining area in less than 20 minutes. 60 girls and the Vencedores boys swept out the water and dried the floor. Galatians 6:1 “Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted." All of us in the body of Christ are connected. We may call ourselves by some denominational name but the bottom line is, if we are saved, we all are in the same family. And just so you may know ---families have problems. Anything that threatens to crush the joy of our faith is classified as a burden or a fault in Galatians 6. Talking about problems does not remove them. Ignoring them will not remove them either. Paul says that if we are spiritual we should restore the person with the heavy burden. I will never forget when I was walking in heavy sadness over the death of my brother I heard a minister quote :But for the grace of God go I". That could easily have been me. I was no better than my brother. But in the midst of the depths of my pain someone came along to help shoulder the burden. Since that moment I have learned that there will always be burdens in my life and I need to learn how to share them, shoulder them or shed them. That is what makes Christianity unique! It is easy to correct those who fall. It is even easier to gossip about those who fall. In fact it is easy to condemn those who fall. But a true spiritual person will restore the person who falls. Maybe you’ve seen the movie Mr. Holland’s Opus. It’s a movie about an aspiring composer named Glen Holland who takes a job as a high school band teacher to pay the bills. His real passion isn’t teaching, but it’s to compose a symphony. But life has a way of edging out our dreams, and he spends the next 35 years teaching high school band, never finishing his symphony. When he retires, all of his former students gather together to honor their high school music teacher. One of his former teacher is now a governor, and as she takes the podium she says, "We are your symphony, Mr. Holland. We are the melodies and notes of your opus. We are the music of your life." Glen Holland learned to multiply his influence through other people. We should also.
