The Moon is in Capricorn today, applying its way to square - TopicsExpress

The Moon is in Capricorn today, applying its way to square stationing Mars. Meanwhile, Venus in Aries is squaring Jupiter in Cancer. With so much Venusian emphasis going on right now, as well as the choice, of stationing mars in Venus sign of Libra, Im reminded of the story of the beauty contest between Aphrodite, Hera, and Athena. In the Greek myth there was a wedding happening and the only goddess not invited was Eris, goddess of discord (shes not far from Venus in Aries right now, by the way). Because she was turned away when she arrived at the wedding she threw a golden apple onto the floor that was marked for the fairest. Of course all three of the goddesses began bickering about which one of them was the fairest and then Paris was designated to make the decision between the three of them. However, he couldnt make an objective decision and on top of it the three goddesses were offering him bribes and gifts to choose from. Aprhodite offered him Helene, and so he chose Aprhodite. The abduction of Helene then led to the Trojan war....(and Eris we might say had the last laugh!). One of the things we may not see right now is the presence of Eris tricky golden apple. Remembering that apples are fruits of the underworld, and death, something in our lives might be appearing very golden right now despite the fact that our attraction to this shiny apple is very quickly going to bring us a kind of death or discord. Furthermore the apple might be disguising itself in the costume of several different very appealing options. We might think were making a very clear/objective choice between things right now, but is it possible that were actually scouting for bribes and benefits? Which golden apple can give me the most? Is that the real question? We dont often think about love or beauty as something that causes wars, but in this particular myth Aprhodite is pretty much indicted with starting the Trojan war! And in fact in many astrological traditions around the world the planet Venus was known as a bringer of war and revenge as much as beauty and love. The relationship of Venus in Aries to Jupiter in Cancer right now also conjures up the image of Heras offer to Paris. Hera, Zeus wife (and very much an image of Jupiter in Cancer), offered Paris rulership and wealth if he chose her as the most beautiful. The implication here is that family ties, as well as concerns around money, property, and shared wealth, inheritance, or blood loyalty may feel as though it is at odds with a desire for something else...something tempting us to screw all our former allegiances, burn the bridges, and let the Trojan war commence! We may be considering choices right now that will likely sever our connections to various groups, people and communities, former comfortable lifestyles, or literally our family or certain groups of friends. We may be considering new options that will force us to leave the familiar and start again, from scratch, or we might feel as though in order to start something new we are being forced to leave behind a very deep well of nourishing connections. It feels inevitable right now that Eris will have her way. Because though she brings chaos and death (the golden apple), the world of Hades is the wealth of the soul. Something about this discord, this desire we are feeling, cannot be moralized away. And weve already been taking bribes around this decision for a while now...so lets not fool ourselves that any of the choices were making are being made from some purely objective place. No. The golden apple beauty contest is well under way. Highly biased choices are happening, and its all okay. The thing we need to recognize is how exciting decisions are. Rather than getting stuck in paralysis by analysis, in the next week lets remember that its just as much about learning to live and learn by the choices we make, regardless of which ones they are, as it is about making the right choice. To place so much emphasis on making the RIGHT choice is like kicking Eris out of the wedding all over again (where Eris represents the inevitable chaos and discord and impermanence and difficulty that is part of every decision or bond..every family, every marriage, every job, and even every system of justice). When we kick Eris out of the wedding, she finds a way in through the back door through our vanity...through our thinking that these supposedly unselfish or unbiased decisions are about futures that will forever vanquish or rid ourselves of difficulty, strife, or discord (especially when these choices are between lovers or between people we think represent a stress free future or happy ending). Prayer: May we see the nature of the golden apple in front of us, and may we recognize the costumed bribes involved in our choices right now.
