The Moon 月 The moon occupies almost as large a part of the Japanese spiritual psyche as the sun does. Many myths and stories, as well as rituals and customs surround the moon; in particular the Autumn Moon. According to Japanese mythology there are twelve moons, one for each month. Eight being an auspicious number in Japanese and Chinese mysticism, the Autumn Moon (being the eight moon) is said to be exceptionally beautiful. The viewing of the moon, whether the moon itself or its reflection in a still pool of water, are known as Tsukimi 月見 - literally, Moon Viewing. ~ Alan, Seeker from Aus Sources: jnto.go.jp/eng/indepth/cultural/kie/moon/kie_moon_01.html en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsukimi windows2universe.org/mythology/tsuki_yomi_moon.html Credits: Summer Moon at Miyajima - Tsuchiya Koitsu, 1936 One Hundred Aspects of the Moon - Tsukioka Yoshitoshi, 1839-1892
