The Moral of this story is DONT CONSENT TO A SEARCH IF YOU HAVE A BAGGIE OF COCAINE IN YOUR GLOVEBOX. Had the petitioner just not given the cop consent, he would have had more than a leg to stand on in this appeal. As it stood, the cop had no reasonable suspicion to even ask to search the car. He did state that the petitioner looked suspicious which is subjective. What does suspicious look like? Im not sure why SCOTUS even took this case on Certiorari, though the headline that Cops can make mistakes of Law creates a mental cluster*&% in my mind. I did like the argument that ignorance of the law is not an excuse and Cops should be held to the same standard as citizens. Chief Justice Roberts didnt bite on that and rammed it back down the petitioners throat. -Rand washingtonpost/politics/courts_law/court-rules-police-may-make-reasonable-mistakes-in-law/2014/12/15/b8b43cf6-8495-11e4-b9b7-b8632ae73d25_story.html
