The Morning Report 10/20/14 The Monday morning has begun and a lot of you have to go to work and I feel for you; I will go to work but it is doing what I want to do and that sure does make a difference. Retirement has been fun; being able to pretty well do what we want when we want is great and we really like it. I still wonder how we kept up with things when we were working. Zeb is doing much better now and has been given real food and although I haven’t received anything about whether he kept it down; I’m glad that the real food is on his menu. Now if he can come home. The hay field was almost completely mowed but I got so low on fuel that I had to quit and come home to watch the race. I will be glad to get this field finished and moved on to the next one that I hope will be the big one in Astatula and will soon have hay for sale; although I am not looking forward to the hauling of the hay. I took a look at the injured calf and it is doing a lot better and can move around if it wants to but pretty well stays wherever it happens to be. I will be glad when it decides to move with the herd and seeks out the company of others. It is looking good and is growing along with the rest of the same age calves, so we will leave well enough alone. We have decided that Tom Kitty has decided that it is the boss of the place. It will walk right in front of the dogs and dare them to really mess with it. Alvin would like it to run so he could chase it but it just stands there to frustrate him which he needs. Mollie would also like it to run but seems to also be sort of a protector of it so all is working out. King Stanley is still the king (he thinks) of the back porch and the yard. He really enjoys chasing and attempting to catch birds and I know that he captured a pocket gopher the other day and that is a good thing. We have an abundance of them and I would like to see the number reduced and I guess King Stanley is helping doing that. Grayson is somewhat being a pain at feeding time since we worked the cows. The way into his paddock has been muddy and he hasn’t really wanted to go through it but now that it is drying up he doesn’t seem to mind and I’m glad of that because I was aggravated at having to chase him into his stall. The cows are wandering from one pasture to another in search of the best tasting grass and there is still plenty out there just some they don’t like as well as other places. We still have a fields that hasn’t been opened to them and sometime in the next few weeks it will be opened and they will move into that one. The tower gardens are doing well. We have picked a bunch of lettuce from it and more is ready to be picked. The tomato plants are growing and some have some small tomatoes on them and I’m anxious for these to get ready. The cauliflower and broccoli are growing very quickly in the one tower and there are still 4 open slots on the top of that and I think that I will put 4 collard green plants there; they don’t grow as tall as the cauliflower or broccoli. The sweet potato plants have taken over the garden near about and shortly we will be digging them. They are also something that I’m looking forward to getting to eat; last year they were the sweetest that I ever ate and we really liked them. I’m hoping that growing them in the tub will make the harvest a little easier but no matter, hopefully we will have sweet potatoes to eat for a while that are really good. Y’all have a great and wonderful day and remember to take a moment to smell the roses!
