The Mount Coolum Golf Club practice putting green was transformed - TopicsExpress

The Mount Coolum Golf Club practice putting green was transformed on Saturday Night into the Mount Coolum BEACH Golf Club for the Beach Party social function. We had a wonderful stroke of luck with the weather, as the forecast storms missed us and the wind dropped away to present perfect conditions for the 44 entrants/attendees. As well as the beach atmosphere and the Blue Hawaiian cocktails, the main attraction was the Beach Putting Competition, called the Putting Pentathlon which was themed around Olympic events - the Water Jump/Steeple Chase, Hockey, Cross-Country, Para-Olympics and the Sprint. The surrounds of the putting green turned into an amphitheatre of colour as the entrants and spectators alike cheered each other on and reveled in the celebrations. With the colourful outfits, umbrellas and beach decorations, as well as music provided by Lin Simpson, all combined made for an awesome atmosphere. The Blue Hawaiian cocktails, complete with umbrella and pineapple wedge, were a real hit and provided the spark to help some guests settle back in their beach chairs well into the night. The Putting Pentathlon was won by a visitor, Marshall Morrison, who had a magnificent score of 15 and took a bottle of wine and $30 cash home for his efforts. Marshall also scored the only Hole-in-One of the night and won himself a second bottle of wine. Second place was Jan Porter ($20 cash and bottle of wine) with a score of 17, and third place went to Peter Richardson ($15 cash and bottle of wine) who shot 19. Dianne MacFarlane had the Bradman Award with a score of 36. Wayne Porter would have won the best dressed award if we had one for his great life-saver outfit. Deb Ambler, Mark Brown and Wendy King rounded out the winners by winning the lucky draw prizes, with each taking a bottle of wine home as a prize. All in all it was a great night with calls from some of the attendees for another one to be held soon! The Social Committee, led by Leonie O’Brien and including Barry Degenhardt, Sam Brown, Roisin Jones, Marg Hollingsworth, Sandra Pearson, Leigh Bruschweiler, Marg Cheeseman and Vicki Garrood, provided a tremendous night and have plenty of ideas for more. Keep an eye out for more social events next year including a trivia night, karaoke, fashion parade, and a rock-n-roll night.
