The Mountain Man Memorial March is a commemorative running/ruckmarching event held in Gatlinburg annually in April. The march started as a way for the University of Tennessee Army ROTC program to honor LT Frank Walkup, an alum who was killed in 2007 while serving in Iraq. The highlight of the MMMM is the ruckmarch category where teams march in honor of Gold Star Families representing loved ones lost from Vietnam to the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. The MMMM hosts the Gold Star Families in Gatlinburg and partners them with teams to help connect them back to their loved ones. This year’s MMMM will include 10K, half, and full marathon runs, in addition to the heavy and light half and full marathon marches. Join them if youre in the area.
