The Muslim Brothers used to say “If you are against Morsy, then you are against Islam.” And now those who support Sisi are saying “If you are against Sisi, then you are against Egypt.” But Islam is more than just Morsy, and Egyptian patriotism or nationalism is more than just Sisi. I am disappointed by the way that we Egyptians have narrowed down nationalism or patriotism, or have narrowed down Islam from their wide idea or understanding into just being with or against a certain person or a certain individual. By the way, I am against both of Morsy and Sisi, so I guess that this makes me an infidel (against Islam) and a traitor (against Egypt), so this means that I should expect to be either targeted by Islamic terrorist assassins, or arrested and executed by the Egyptian authorities like Israeli spies! I am a Muslim and an Egyptian, whether anyone likes it or not! (By the way, this is the same situation which happened in the United States just after September 11: if you were against the invasion of Iraq, or you were against the imprisonment of people in Guantanamo Bay, then you are not an American patriot, and you are supporting al Qaeda and terrorism, and all sorts of similar accusations would be thrown at you!) And again, let us not forget to pray for the innocent people who died in the protests over the past month, and for the brave 25 Egyptian soldiers who died in Rafah on Monday.
