The Muslim radicals that killed Charle Hebdo journalists had been arrested but were released due to weak laws in France. Cherif Kouachi, who is now 32, was sentenced to 18 months in prison after being convicted of terrorism charges in 2008 for helping funnel fighters to Iraqs insurgency. He said he was outraged at the torture of Iraqi inmates at the U.S. prison at Abu Ghraib near Baghdad. In March 2012, French police faced criticism after 23-year-old Mohammed Merah killed seven people, including three soldiers and four people at a Jewish School in the Toulouse area. Merah, a petty criminal, had been questioned after he returned from Afghanistan and Pakistan in 2011. He was killed in a shootout with police In short, French laws, just like the Kenyan laws are not strong enough to deal with terrorism.
