The Muzaffarnagar riots have changed the political equations. Significant sections of the Muslims are alienated from the SP. Its main leader Azam Khan is avoiding meetings. The Jat-Muslim alliance is fractured. The main beneficiary is the BJP. Polarising politics is their major mobilising gambit. Besides rebuilding bridges the SP must punish the police officers and administrators who failed to perform their duty. The judicial enquiry must be expedited.
