The Mystery of God’s Deliverance Gods deliverance is always a mystery. We do not know what form it will take. We are required to trust and to allow our faith to help see ourselves through whatever challenges that confront us. So often when we are in trouble we have our own ideas about how we want or expect God to deliver us. We never really know how things will be resolved or how we might be rescued from our trouble. Our ideas of how we want God to take care of our trouble are seldom as simple or straightforward as we would want. For the most part when we are suffering or struggling what we really want is for the painful situation to be taken away. How God protects us and gets us out of our messes usually involves the opportunity to learn how to be strengthened. The ability to gain strength comes with recognition that our faith is being tested. Therefore we do well to remember we are not operating on our own. We are not alone. We are reminded that we can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth us. Philippians 4:13. Do you remember the bible account about Naaman the captain of the king of Syria? He was a leper and he wanted to be cured of his leprosy. He was told to go down to the river of Jordan to wash away his disease. He was offended by the recommendation to wash himself in Jordan, because Jordan was a dirty body of water. He felt that the other rivers in Damascus were more impressive and superior. However, until he obeyed by dipping into the Jordan river he was not made clean. 2 Kings 5:12-14. Israel was told to march around the walls of the city of Jericho. What a strange way to overtake a city! However, the instruction was clear that in order for Israel to be victorious in capturing the city of Jericho they had to march around the walled city 7 days with specific instruction on the 7th day. When they obeyed, Jericho was delivered into their hand. Joshua 6:1-20. Finally, most bible readers remember the story about the three Hebrew men ((Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego) who refused to bow down to worship pagan gods. For their civil disobedience they were cast into a fiery furnace that was heated 7 times hotter than usual. The heat was so hot that the guards who threw the three Hebrew men into the fire were killed. After being thrown into the fire for they were walking around in the furnace without being burned. More importantly there was a 4th man in the fire with them. Daniel 1:15. Minister Wesley Leonard of Orlando Florida preached about the 4th Man in the Fiery Furnace. He emphasized a critical point to remember. Sometimes God does not get you out of your trouble. Sometimes he joins you in the midst of your trouble. We do not know how God will delivers us; Christians just know that God is faithful and he does deliver. There are so many other bible examples of deliverance that illustrates this same point. (Daniel 6:10). We never really know how God will deliver, but we know He always provides a way of escape. Our central scripture of reflection today is found in I Corinthians 10:13. There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it Ife Ayodele copyright@ 2011
