The Myth of Free Will When Dr. Lewis said the following it was just the tip of the iceberg. "I do not know who started the doctrine of having Free Will. I have yet to see a Free Will Soul. I have yet to see this path of free souls where they can separate themselves from humanity,go off on a separate road,be positive and successful on that road, and gain anything. And yet I have those who are associated with me in many ways not connected with our Order tell me ...why they do not want to join the Rosicrucian Order. They tell me that for years they have been"Free Souls," without membership in any organization---just " Free Souls," always seeking for more light and more information." There are other studies that point out that even if we are standing still and asked to jump to the right or the left that even if we think that we have Free Will, there is always some factor that presupposes us to a movement one way or the other. "Philosophers who distinguish freedom of action and freedom of will do so because our success in carrying out our ends depends in part on factors wholly beyond our control. Furthermore, there are always external constraints on the range of options we can meaningfully try to undertake. As the presence or absence of these conditions and constraints are not (usually) our responsibility, it is plausible that the central loci of our responsibility are our choices, or “willings.” " While Descartes subscribes to the idea of total unrestrained Free will this is not so for most. "The majority view, however, is that we can readily conceive willings that are not free. Indeed, much of the debate about free will centers around whether we human beings have it, yet virtually no one doubts that we will to do this and that." >>>>Men are as free to act as their abilities will allow.
