The NE Corner of Ninth St. and State St. Phillip and Henry Yost - TopicsExpress

The NE Corner of Ninth St. and State St. Phillip and Henry Yost established a meat market at 836 State St in 1865. In 1914 Harold F. Raue was hired as an apprentice meat cutter. Around 1924 the Yost brothers purchased the building on the corner of Ninth and State St. from F.F. Stowe and Son and employed Franklin Bentley as manager of the grocery store. When the Yost brothers retired in 1937, they sold the store and property to Raue and Bentley. A gas explosion and fire in the winter of 1944 destroyed the building, but it was rebuilt into a modern store of the 1940s. In 1955 Raue and Bentley sold the building to the Lockport Savings and Loan. Pictures include the Yost Brothers 836 State St. store.... a 1932 shot of Henry Yost, Franklin Bentley, and Harold Raue..... the fire that destroyed the building in 1944..... and an artist rendition of the new building along with photos from the interior.
