The #NSA secret surveillance documents leaked by ex-NSA employee Edward #Snowden revealed how #Washington was #spying on the European Union. 38 #embassies and missions in the EU region were included in the target list. The documents also listed the methods that NSA deployed to collect information. NSA tapped into cables, installed special antennas and implanted bugs into electronic communications to intercept EU communication. The target list included French, Italian and Greek embassies. The NSA also used a bug codenamed #Dropmire to extract information. Dropmire was implanted in the #Cryptofax at the EU embassy in the US. Cryptofaxes are used to transfer important communication between foreign embassies and their home countries. The NSA also intercepted the communications of the EU mission at the #UN. The operation was codenamed #Perdido.
