The NSW Police Commissioner has congratulated 12 current and former members of the Force who have been recognised as part of the Queen’s Birthday Honours list. The Governor General of Australia, Ms Quentin Bryce AV CVO, announced the award recipients with the release of Honours list today (Monday 10 June 2013). The efforts of a serving officer, and a former member of the NSW Police Force, have been acknowledged with the Order of Australia Medal. Senior Constable Kenneth Anderson APM joined the NSW Police Force in 1985, working in the Barwon Local Area Command. He will be recognised for his service to the community of Wee Waa through a range of fundraising and community initiatives. He has been instrumental in establishing a working relationship between police and the indigenous community, as well as establishing locally-run Blue Light Discos. Senior Constable Anderson has raised more than $500,000, with funds benefiting junior rugby league, soccer, swimming, the pony club, Girl Guides, Little Athletics, aged hostels and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service. During the past 27 years he has worked tirelessly in the community, arranging events including the Commemorative Horse Ride and the 150th Anniversary of Policing for the Barwon Local Area Command. In 2003, Senior Constable Anderson was awarded the Australian Police Medal. Mr Donald Eyb APM was a NSWPF officer for 44 years and served as the Commander of the NSW Mounted Police. He was responsible for organising and choreographing a number of equestrian entertainment events, including the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. During his career in the NSW Police Force, Mr Eyb also organised equestrian displays at the Royal Easter Show, Newcastle, Melbourne and Brisbane Shows as well as the Australian Light Horse Association. He is the vice-patron for Riding for the Disabled, NSW and has been will be recognised for his service equestrian sports. Eight members of the NSW Police Force have been awarded the prestigious Australian Police Medal (APM) including: Superintendent Mark Hiron; Detective Senior Sergeant Roslyn Keys; Senior Constable Imants Ramma; Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Sharkey; Superintendent David Simmons; Chief Superintendent Anthony Trichter; Superintendent Mark Walton; and, Detective Superintendent Scott Whyte. A further two serving staff members of the NSW Police Force have been awarded the Public Service Medal for their outstanding service being. Ms Nicole Rose joined the NSW Police Force in 2004, taking up a position as the Director of the Office of the Commissioner in 2007. She had previously performed roles at the Department of Premier and Cabinet, Ministry for Police and Emergency Services, and Corrective Services. While working for the Ministry for Police and Emergency Services, Ms Rose was instrumental in the establishment and operation of the NSW Innocence Panel. This panel is a high-level committee tasked with reviewing criminal convictions where advancements in DNA technology might possibly be used as new evidence. After the 2002 Bali bombings, Ms Rose became involved in the preparation of funding and legislation documentation for the newly created Counter Terrorism Command. She has a wealth of experience in planning and policy, having worked on many high-profile operations including the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) conference in 2007 and World Youth Day in 2008. Another member of the NSW Police Force to be recognised for outstanding public service is Ms Dawn King, who has worked in the NSW Police Force for more than 40 years and currently performs the role of Executive Officer at St George Local Area Command. She is a highly-regarded and valued member of staff, providing support to senior management on complex issues including liaison with the NSW Ombudsman’s Office and the Professional Standards Command. In 1996 Ms King was a member of the Code of Conduct Focus Group. This was coordinated by the Royal Commission Implementation Unit to review issues stemming from the Royal Commission into the NSW Police Force. NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione APM congratulated the recipients on their nominations and said they were deserving of the individual recognition they have received. “Each and every one has given their all to the state of NSW, showing true dedication, commitment and leadership.” Commissioner Scipione said. “They should be applauded for their tireless work for the NSW Police Force and the community, and are thoroughly deserving of these prestigious awards.”
