The Name above Every Name Philippians 2:9-11 Throughout the centuries, one name has stood out from among all others-the name of Jesus. One day, every knee (will) bow to Him, and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord (vv.10-11). The name Jesus means Savior. True believers already bow their knees to Him and already confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. But one day, unbelievers also will bow their knees and acknowledge Him as Sovereign over all. Unfortunately, at that time Christ will be their Judge, not their Savior. No second chance for salvation exists beyond the grave for the unsaved. It is important to remember that even though many who are religious may verbally confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, their disobedience to Gods Word is irrefutable evidence that their confession is, in fact, false. One of the favorite expressions of charismatics is Jesus is Lord. Yet, under their banner, many false doctrines and unscriptural fellowships are not only tolerated but even promoted. If Jesus is truly Lord in the life of any believer, then one of his greatest concerns will be to have absolute fidelity to the Word of God. However many in the charismatic movement often set aside the Bible in favor of following supposed new revelations, dreams, visions, tongues, and the alleged interpretation of tongues. This sin-cursed world needs believers who not only confess with their lips that Jesus is Lord but who also show by their lives the lordship of Christ. Jesus is not truly Lord in the life of any Christian who is disobedient to the Bible, which reveals Gods will for how we are to live. May we bow our knees and our hearts in obedience to Christ, and, in so doing, truly make Him Lord of our life.
